Maintenance & Lifespan
Resin is a low-upkeep surface rather than a no-upkeep one. A little routine attention keeps it looking as it did when it was laid.
Sweeping
The main job. Keeping leaves, soil and grit off the surface stops debris building up where moss and seedlings can take hold.
Washing down
A hose and a stiff brush a couple of times a year deals with general grime.
Pressure washing
Fine if done carefully — moderate pressure, a fan nozzle, and the lance held well back. Close, aggressive jetting can loosen aggregate.
Moss and algae
More likely in shaded, damp corners. Treat early with a suitable outdoor cleaner rather than scraping.
Weeds at the edges
Growth comes from windblown seed settling on top, not through the surface. Pull or treat it at the borders.
Oil and fuel
Deal with spills promptly. Absorb what you can, then clean the area rather than letting it soak and spread.
Winter conditions
Resin copes with British winters well enough. Use a plastic shovel rather than a metal blade when clearing snow, and avoid harsh de-icing salts where you can — sand or a proprietary product marked as safe for decorative surfaces is kinder to the finish.
Repairs
Damaged areas can be cut out and re-laid. Expect a repair to show slightly: aggregate varies between batches, and the surrounding surface will have weathered. Where damage keeps recurring in one spot, the cause is usually beneath — movement or drainage — and worth investigating before patching again.
How long will it last?
We would rather explain the factors than quote a headline number. Lifespan comes down to preparation, base stability, drainage, how carefully it was laid, what is parked on it and whether it is kept clean. A drive built properly from the base up and looked after should serve for many years; one laid over a failing base will not, whatever the material.
